Choose Videographer on Personality and Style

In 2009, brides will definitely be more focused on price than in recent years. It’s fine to scale back and have a small intimate affair, or to make your own wedding favors. But there’s one thing that you shouldn’t skimp on - your wedding video.

A great wedding video will be cherished for years by you and your future generations. Choosing a wedding videographer solely on price can result in major disappointment and not just after the video has been delivered.

Just like your photographer, you want to be able to get along with your videographer. You’re going to be spending some time with them on your wedding day so you should make sure that your personalities click. Also make sure that they have a level of professionalism that you are comfortable with.

Each wedding videographer has his or her own style of shooting and editing. Check out their sample videos and make sure that you like their style. Does it move you? Does it bring tears to your eyes? Do you want your video to be just like it?

Not every videographer is right for every couple. Choose the videographer that has the personality and style that fits your personality and style.

Kathryn & David - BWI Marriott

January 10, 2009
Kat and David's wedding was at the BWI Marriott Hotel. The hall was decorated in lush, vibrant shades of red and black - very dramatic. All of the flowers were red and white roses. The couple was a pleasure to work for. They were very laid back and just wanted to enjoy themselves. The whole evening was up against the Ravens-Titans playoff game so most of the guests were huddled around the TV during the cocktail hour. They even had a TV in the bridal waiting room. Dancing was a highlight of the reception. David's dance towards Kat to remove the garter was one of the best I have seen yet. Dan from Music Masters DJs was the DJ. He kept the party going all night long.

Katie & Nick - Celebrations on the Bay

December 27, 2009
Christmas weddings are always so beautiful. The church was decorated for Christmas with a large Nativity scene, Christmas trees, Poinsettias and wreathes. The weather couldn't have been better for the end of December - 60 degrees and sunny. The reception was at Celebrations on the Bay. When we arrived at Celebrations, the sky was a beautiful blue and the sun was starting to set. Katie and Nick took a ton of formal photographs outside. Their photographer - Stevie T. - couldn't resist the gorgeous setting. As the sun went down the sky turned pink and everything reflected off the water. Inside the reception hall, the lighting was dim and decorated with white Christmas lights. The best thing was the cake. It was white with snowflakes, garnished with cranberries and garland. The bride and groom were snowmen! So cute! The dance party was hopping all night long with the help of their DJ - Paul Love.

Abigail & Max - Chesapeake Bay Beach Club

December 6, 2008
Abigail and Max were married at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. It was an elegant affair. The beach club has really expanded in recent years and they have a new room for indoor ceremonies. The room has huge windows for natural light and a fireplace at the front. There were two elements that I thought made the ceremony very personal. First the grandfather of the bride was the officiant. They also had the readings done in English and Spanish, to acknowledge the groom's family. One other thing that I really thought was great was the bride's jewelry. She borrowed a diamond necklace with a bright blue sapphire pendant. It was a nice contrast to her gown and covered her something borrowed and something blue.

Megan & Bill - Loyola College & Baltimore Museum of Industry

November 15, 2008
Megan and Bill's ceremony was in the chapel on the Loyola College, Baltimore, Maryland campus. The reception was at the Baltimore Museum of Industry. I really like how they had arranged the museum for the reception. They had hors d'oerve stations placed throughout the museum and staff members on hand to answer any questions the guests might have. They even fired up the machine shop with all its belts and pulleys.

The photographer was Kyle from Kyle Bergner Photography. I have worked with her before and I was glad to do so again, she is a talented photographer. I think that we are able to work well together because we both put the couple at the center of our attention. We didn't battle each other for position because we both know that photo and video are very different final products. It allowed for us to both ply our art to the best we could for the couple, and I think our final products will reflect that in the end.

Also, this crowd was very active on the dance floor. They got down from the first dance until after the band quit playing. It was a lot of fun, and I wish Megan and Bill all the best.

Jessica & Brett - Gramercy Mansion

This past weekend we filmed Jessica and Brett's Wedding. The interfaith ceremony was at the Towson United Methodist Church under the custom hoopa in historic Hampton Maryland. This was one of the most beautifully lit churches I've ever seen. The sun through the windows created beautiful pools of light making the church's interior glow. The reception was at the upscale Gramercy Mansion in Greenspring Valley. The wedding was a ton of fun and the couple danced the night away. The photographer was Eric Stocklin - a long time friend and colleague of my wife. He was great to work with and I think his working style added to the enjoyment of the evening. Weddingscapes did an awesome job with the floral decor. They did both the ceremony and the tablescapes at the reception. This created a real feeling of continuity between the ceremony and reception. The deep rich colors they used for the bridal bouquets and centerpieces were unique. I would highly recommend any of these wedding vendors.

April & Don - Piney Branch Golf Course

Last night we filmed a wedding at the Piney Branch Golf Course in Hampstead. What a beautiful setting for the ceremony and reception. They have a covered patio for the ceremony overlooking the rolling hills of their manicured greens. The ballroom is also beautiful and spacious. The staff at Piney Branch were very accommodating. I'm sure that April and Don were thrilled with their wedding. We worked with Norm, Lauren and Penny from Greystone Photographics and Scott from Great Scott Productions. As always, these vendors are very professional and easy to work with. April and Don are a lovely couple, very friendly and obviously in love. I'm sure that it will be a pleasure to edit their video.
